Hey everyone! We have 10 days to go in the Kickstarter campaign for the Art Mages of Lure special edition hardcover. The book includes all three Art Mages novels, Curse Painter, Stone Charmer, and Voice Mage, in a single volume. The special edition has 780 pages and features two brand-new pieces of cover art and ten interior illustrations.
Today, I thought I’d tell you more about this gorgeous digital painting by Kateryna Vitkovska (Instagram @vitkovskaya_art) which will appear under the dust jacket.
Many under-jacket book covers feature character art or minimalist vector designs. While I think both options are beautiful, I decided to go with a fantasy landscape after finding Kateryna Vitkovska’s artwork. I can see everything I write in vivid detail, and it’s such a special opportunity to work with an artist who can bring a magical world to life. You might notice that the blonde woman standing next to Archer on the front of this cover is not Briar, the other MC. Jemma is the strategic genius of the outlaw band and one of the most important women in Archer’s life. Her husband, Lew, is the red-haired man who appears on the back cover with the horse. Lew is a big-hearted giant who writes poetry when he’s not cracking heads to protect his friends. I wanted to feature these two on the cover even though they’re not the main couple. I hope you’ll love them as much as I do!
I asked the artist to depict this scene in the autumn. The book begins in the summer, and the green jacket design hints at the classic Sherwood Forest-like setting. The leaves have turned by the time our merry band reaches the destination featured in this painting, and I just love how the fall colors turned out!
The case laminate that will be used on the book is fairly shiny, so the vibrant colors in the painting should show up especially well. I can’t wait for you all to see it in person! It will also be printed on the reverse of the foldout map of Lure available as an add-on or part of the art pack:
