Book Trope Gift Guide

Hey everyone! The holiday season is ramping up here in Hong Kong, and I’m thinking about the pies I want to make for expat Thanksgiving, anticipating the delivery of my Christmas tree, and planning out gifts for my loved ones. I especially love to give (and receive) physical books. Last year my parents gave me a paperback copy of The Last One, an apocalyptic thriller by Alexandra Oliva about a woman who’s in the middle of filming a survivalist reality show when an actual apocalypse kicks off. It has all my favorite ingredients: an apocalypse, a fast pace, a woman surviving on her own, romantic tension, interesting characters, and explorations of deeper themes.

When you’re looking for the perfect book, sometimes it helps to know what ingredients are in the mix. Here’s a handy guide to the tropes in my series to help you decide if they’re right for the reader in your life. They’re all available in paperback and some are out in hardcover too!

The Lost Clone is a YA sci-fi mystery series about a leftover clone who’s hired to replace one of her replicas, only to discover the first girl was murdered–and she might be next.

You can get the first three books in paperback, ebook, or audiobook, with more to come in 2024.

Steel and Fire is an epic YA fantasy series about a competitive duelist who must train with an infuriating prince who insists on helping her charm the dueling spectators. But when assassins close in, she’s only one who can save him.

You can get all five books as special edition hardcovers, paperbacks, ebooks, and audiobooks.

The Fire Queen’s Apprentice is an epic fantasy trilogy is about a young magic thief who accidentally steals a dragon and ends up getting sent to a brand-new school for magic wielders.

You can get whole trilogy in paperback, ebook, or audiobook. The hardcover special editions are coming in 2024!

When a killer comet hurtles for earth, Joanna is selected to wait out the apocalypse in an underground cryosleep bunker. 200 years later, she’s the only one who wakes up.

Read the Bunker series in paperback, ebook, or audiobook.

Art Mages of Lure is a Robin Hood-inspired YA fantasy about a deadly magical artist who joins a charismatic outlaw on a desperate rescue mission.

You can get the complete trilogy in paperback, ebook, and audiobook. Keep an eye out for the hardcover special edition Kickstarter in January!

The Seabound Chronicles follow the adventures of a mechanic on a post-apocalyptic cruise ship in danger of running out of drinkable water.

You can get the prequel and the trilogy in paperback, ebook, and audiobook. Or wait until the shiny new paperback editions drop next year!

Empire of Talents is a YA fantasy adventure about a talented shapeshifter who works as a spy for a princess in a decadent imperial palace.

Get the whole trilogy in paperback, hardcover, or ebook.

I hope this guide helps you decide which Jordan Rivet books are right for the reader in your life–or for yourself! They’re all designed to help you escape the real world and keep you turning pages long past your bedtime. Enjoy!

P.S. All my books are available to read for free in Kindle Unlimited if you’re in the mood for a serious binge this holiday season.
